The Breastfeeding Support You Need
POSITIONING AND ATTACHMENT
Every mother and baby have different ergonomics when it comes to feeding. I aim to find a position that is comfortable for feeding, as you spend many hours doing it! During your consultation, I will watch a breastfeed and provide suggestions for a better latch and attachment.
I have long been interested in tongue tie, as two of my babies were affected. I provide scissor frenotomy in my rooms, which is a simple and quick procedure with minimal pain and bleeding. I perform several of these per week, on average. I will only proceed to this procedure if I believe the baby's tight lingual frenulum is contributing to maternal nipple pain or other significant breastfeeding complications.
CUSTOMISED BREASTFEEDING ADVICE
Every family is different. Some mothers may be feeding twins or tandem feeding. Some mothers want to continue to breastfeed throughout their next pregnancy. Some mothers are lactating for a baby born through a surrogate. I am interested in helping all mothers and babies find their "breastfeeding groove".
BREASTFEEDING WITH MEDICAL CONDITIONS
I am experienced in providing breastfeeding advice for mothers who have had caesarian birth, thyroid problems, gestational diabetes, perinatal mental health issues and more. I am able to assess babies who may be experiencing suck/swallow issues, plagiocephaly, torticollis, poor weight gain or fussy behaviour.
PERINATAL SHARED CARE
As I am passionate about caring for mothers and babies, I also provide Shared Maternity Care for pregnant women. This means they see me for the majority of their antenatal visits, and visit the hospital for only a few visits across the pregnancy. This means less time in hospital waiting rooms and less travel time. I can also continue on with their care AFTER delivery and provide timely and personal breastfeeding and baby care advice.
I am accredited with the following hospitals:
- Royal Women's Hospital
(Parkville and Sandringham)
- Mercy Hospital
- Pensinsula Health
- Monash Health
